acrylic on hemlock panel

Artist’s Note: This was my first (and still my favorite) moth painting. I loved leaving some of the uneven wood at the bottom left exposed. It’s an example of why I love painting on wood—because I can use the textures and patterns in the wood grains themselves to add complexity to a painting and the appearance of age. (I saw exposed wood in some of the medieval artwork displayed in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and haven’t been able to get it out of my mind.)
